I wanted to clear up any misunderstanding about my apartment post. I was trying to explain that comfort is in the eye of the beholder. That what we take for granted in the US doesn’t exist everywhere, but this is ok. While I’m not staying in the Radisson or even the Comfort Suites, I enjoy greater rewards than a mattress that doesn’t slip off the bed. The amazing courtyard and rhododendrons that greet me when I walk out the doorway … the spectacular sights and sounds just beyond on the street … far outweigh everything else.
On to other topics …. the cooking class ! It was a great experience, cooking for one hour, then relaxing for another hour over “our” meal together with my co-cooks and the young femme de chef … (yes, no, maybe on the French ?)
At the L’atelier des Chefs de Penthièvre my classmates were two lovely French women — an elegant and charming late 50s (perhaps) mother from Fontainebleau and her daughter who is married and living in Paris. The young teacher was great but no one spoke much English ! I managed fine never the less, as the women all worked together to help translate what you couldn’t get visually. The hands on training was more effective than language.
