And the gods said, Let there be sun …
(Warning: This post is perilously close to a Sound of Music nomination ..)
There I was walking along the Seine, returning from l’Institut du monde Arabe … in the distance sat Notre Dame, cloaked in all her majesty despite the overcast weather … when the skies parted and (yes) golden sunlight lit a halo over the Lady …
OK .. I know it sounds hokey but it gets even better. A young man was sitting by the side of the Seine playing an inspired sax (without even a hat to encourage tips), and as I meandered along in awe, there moored directly across from Notre Dame was the Bateau Daphne … on board just 6 small tables, 4 of them empty. A sign dockside offered crepes for 4 euros and expresso for just 2 (remember the tip is included). So I walked the plank and sat there savoring the view and a fantastic crepe cara
mel beurre sale (that’s a crepe wrapped around hot caramel and butter — to die for) … and THEN voila … the bells in the cathedral tower rang out an amazing 15 minute welcome to 5:30 afternoon Mass ….
And all I could think of was … it doesn’t get any better than this … !!!
(And we are only on day 3 !)
